DOT Audit Success
This seminar is almost entirely hands on. We will conduct a simulated compliance review using documents representing forms our Optima auditors have actually seen in our work with clients. The goal obviously will be to prepare you to go back and conduct your own internal audit before the DOT does. Don’t get surprised...get your system ready for the coveted Satisfactory rating. To get the most out of this class we suggest that you attend the Motor Carrier Safety Seminar first.
Advanced DOT Workshop
Now that you’ve had time to become generally competent with the DOT regulations and procedures, let us take you to the next level. With over 70 years of experience in the industry and 30 years as DOT consultants, John and Jeff will show you a deeper view of Motor Carrier Safety. Learn how to search SafeStat statistics and new CSA2010 Carrier and driver Safety Management scores to reduce your scores. Learn how to write that policy to say what you need it to say.
Establish control over all aspects of compliance. Since this is a workshop we will roll up our sleeves and do it more than just talk. Guest speakers will add the real word touch.
Motor Carrier Safety Seminar
A must for every transportation professional. Find out what you are personally and professionally required to know and do. We’ll cover the Federal motor Carrier Safety Regulations and applicable state laws. If you can only go to one seminar this year—this is the one.
1/2-Day Hours of Service Seminar
Learn the basics of the DOT’s restrictions on a driver’s driving time. Recent changes have severely restricted the split break. What exceptions can your company utilize? Learn how to prepare and manage the driver’s log. Designed for admin, drivers, and management.
Hours of Service (Log) Audit
Management will be held responsible for errors made by the driver even if you weren’t aware of the violation. In some cases, managers can even be charged with “aiding and abetting the violation” if you don’t have control of this critical safety area. Some studies have shown that fatigue is a contributing factor in as many as 50% of all accidents. Even though you cannot ride with the driver, you can reconstruct his life if you know how to read and interpret what he/she told you on his/her logs.
During this seminar you will be converted to drivers for a trip and be asked to do the logs. Then we will audit actual logs for three different types of violations. Arm yourself with every tool possible to get control of hours of service violations.
Vehicle Maintenance
“Every motor carrier shall systematically inspect, repair, and maintain, or cause to be maintained, all motor vehicles subject to its control.” (§396.3) This seminar is designed for both management and mechanics. Maintenance files are more complicated then any other files in the DOT's requirements. There are four different files, all with different retention requirements. Quite often the best technically sound shop has the worst record keeping skills. If it isn’t documented properly, it did not get done.
During this class we will focus on the DOT’s maintenance regulations and the corresponding records but will also actually conduct a CVSA Level 1 roadside inspection and point out specific out-of-service scenarios.
