Event Description
This 4-day interactive workshop is designed to develop key mindsets, approaches and skills to support business where continuous improvement is integrated into daily operations. Participants will learn and practice; principles of lean, distinction of value within process, waste identification, managing daily improvement, leadership standards, problem solving and A3, 5S, visual management, kamishibai, value stream mapping and coaching team members for sustained success.
Who: Managers, Directors, Supervisors, Foremen, Department Leads, Coordinators- sometimes known as Tier 1 and 2 management. People that your organization needs to propel to become champions for change! People that need to be both effective managers and leaders while serving their people, customers, suppliers and the organization.
Why: Managers direct and control business. If that were entirely true every company everywhere would achieve its targets and objectives consistently. Organizations need effective, inspired people, leaders that understand what, how and where to focus teams to identify problems and have the necessary skills to lead teams through solving and handling issues as part of daily effective management and sustainable success.
Agenda:
Day 1 – Defining the Leader
- Principles of Lean (Origin, process, quality, value and non-value, waste, 12 principles)
- MDI- Managing for Daily Improvement (Purpose of Management, daily focus on performance -SQDC and Continuous Improvement) Visual management using communication cell boards, working with teams.
- Lean Leader Standard Work -Establishing standard of behaviors for leaders/managers
Day 2 – Becoming Active
- Practice MDI (Time team meetings with coaching)
- Problem Solving and A3- Thinking and Tool
Day 3 – Develop Skills
- Practice MDI (Timed team meetings with coaching)
- 5S (theory and gemba)
- Kamishibai
Day 4 – Ready for Gemba!
- Practice MDI (Timed team meetings with coaching)
- VSM (theory)
- Coaching team members
- Managing Change

Dave has consulted with a wide variety of manufacturers throughout Wisconsin to improve productivity and bottom line results. Dave’s primary responsibility is to teach lean principles and to apply lean tools with employees at all levels and in all functions of the organization through a variety of methods. Dave’s role in the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques was that of coach and mentor, and emphasized the importance of connecting strategy to actionable operations improvements. He creates lasting change with his clients.
