June 7-9 and 14-16

Take some time to learn this simple and practical problem solving method that involves everyone in your organization! Throughout this series of six, 2-hour interactive virtual sessions, we’ll show you how to recognize process and workplace gaps using internal resources. Then, we’ll teach you how to fill those gaps and improve performance across all areas of the business including operations, finance, supply chain, planning, customer service, engineering, and more.

Through open discussion and working a case study, we’ll help you put the new tools you’ll learn you to good use.

  • How to identify problems and gaps in performance, write a problem statement, and launch collaborative problem-solving teams
  • Topics include roles & responsibilities, normal vs abnormal conditions, vague concerns, types of problems, link to managing for daily improvement and visual management, prioritization of problems, and finding time to solve problems

June 8
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Documenting the current process in one hour or less, and facilitating a go-see session
  • Topics include cross functional flow charts, current state map, and call your 800 number

June 9
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Brainstorm and prioritize a manageable list of potential direct causes
  • Topics include cause and effect brainstorm and quick vote
  • Field & forum exercise

June 14
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Learn different approaches to identify the root cause and permanently eliminate the core issue
  • Topics include easy, faster, better, 5 why’s, Fishbone diagram, and data analysis
  • Field & forum exercise 

June 15
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Develop and prioritize proposed solutions to permanently eliminate the core issue
  • Topics include benefit and effort matrix, mountain top communication, catchball, and stakeholder buy in
  • Field & forum exercise 

June 16
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Implementing the countermeasures and confirming success
  • Topics include accountability, the whirlwind, selecting an output metric, and what does done look like?
  • Field and forum exercise

Tom Groth

Tom has more than 30 years of experience in continuous improvement, project management, new product development, and training. He is leading Optima’s continuous improvement alliance in Southern Wisconsin facilitating member tours, best practice sharing, and education. Tom is a master facilitator striving to solve problems through balanced participation of cross-functional teams. He has led successful continuous improvement programs in multiple industries including life sciences, drug development, insurance, personal care research & development, and public utility.
