The book The Goal, which is still to this day the most popular business book in the world, tells the story of how Alex Rogo turned around the operations of his struggling plant. At the heart of his amazing success is the fact that he utilized a unique scheduling algorithm called Drum-Buffer-Rope (DBR).
In this presentation we will describe what DBR is, how it works, and how it can be modified to fit a business which provides highly customized products. We’ll also describe how DBR can be combined with Lean & Six Sigma, as part of a comprehensive Process of Ongoing Improvement (POOGI), to create a culture of continuous improvement.
The presentation will review the following:
- How scheduling is traditionally done – and why it doesn’t work
- The scheduling problems most companies encounter
- The visual, Velocity-based scheduling system based on DBR
- Action steps you can take NOW to improve
